Sea shipment?

Shipment by sea is performed by “conference line” transporter according to the schedule, from different sea port of China to various sea ports of Russia. Shipment by sea can sometimes be cheaper than by rail but takes longer time, depending on buyer’s location. Conference lines usually accept for shipment 20 and 40-foot containers. To ship the cargo by sea, the customs broker only has to specify port of shipment (the consignor will direct you) and port of destination of goods.

Rail shipment?

Shipment by rail is performed first by Chinese railway and, then, by Russian railway. TransContainer usually serves as transporter. Shipment by rail is usually more expensive than by ship, but it takes less time, depending on buyer’s location. Train cars, 20 and 40-foot containers can usually be shipped by railway. To ship the cargo by rail you will need to know the code of buyer’s destination station and the consignor can learn all the prices and conditions of shipment by rail.

What is "multimodal transport"?

Multimodal transport is usually performed by sea and rail and provided by conference line and rail carrier. In the field, it looks the following way: conference line delivers the cargo to the designated port, and then the cargo is shipped by rail to the designated destination station. Along with this, the customs clearance can be done either at the port, or at the destination station.

What type of containers train cars are used for sea and rail shipments?

Standard dimensions and legal (permissible) weight of the containers used for sea and rail shipments are listed in the table below.

Maximum mass of the loaded cargo can be different with different conference lines and rail carriers. 20-foot containers can receive cargo from 21.5 tons up to 27 tons (usually within 23 tons range), 40-footers receive cargo from 25 tons up to 28 tons. The decision depends on the type of containers and cranes used at cargo offloading facility.
